Sacramento, CA — Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen’s AB 1606 passed the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee today with bipartisan support.

This legislation provides targeted relief to small businesses facing cleanup costs related to illegal dumping and other impacts on their properties. The bill was narrowed in committee to reduce the credit, limit eligibility to small businesses, and add guardrails to ensure it is targeted and fiscally responsible.

“AB 1606 is about helping property owners and small businesses deal with challenges that are outside of their control” said Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen (D-Elk Grove). “I applaud Assemblymember Gibson for his support of AB 1606 and the growing need to provide targeted relief to small businesses and property owners that continually are faced with costly cleanups while also protecting taxpayer dollars.”

“AB 1606 is a meaningful step forward in addressing a growing concern for small businesses and property owners facing rising cleanup costs,” said Matthew Hargrove, President and CEO of CBPA. “We appreciate Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen’s leadership and commitment to helping small businesses and property owners manage these increasing burdens.”

AB 1606 now moves to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
